Nelly and John

Nelly lived down in Brighton
John up in Hepburn
They met each other
One summer in June

They met on a steam train
Talked all through the night
It was just what you call
Love at the first sight

He´s just a poor boy
Her daddy mayor of town
He´s thinking to himself
She can never be mine

Chor:

Run away with me Nelly
Say won´t you be mine
I promise to love you till the end of all time
The man you´re to marry may be the richest of all….
But you can´t buy happiness with silver and gold

Then he sent her a letter
No answer did come
So maybe it´s better
Let her out of his mind

Well it´s easy to say
But harder to do
Though she felt the same way
There was nothing she could do

She´s going to marry
The man in dear clothes
And John will miss Nelly
As the Tyne river flows

Chor:

Run away with me Nelly
Say won´t you be mine
I promise to love you till the end of all time
The man you´re to marry may be the richest of all….
But you can´t buy happiness with silver and gold

Chor:
